True, I just submitted a report to Adobe because After Effects doesn't yet support the 400Mbps All-I Codec from the 2.0 Firmware and hopefeully they will add support, This might mean that Premiere won't yet support the codec yet either, but I don't use Premiere. If enough people complain to Apple, they will fix it.

They still have to update final cut pro x and i can't imagine that apple would ignore such a popular camera by leaving it out in the cold.Įvery other company had to update their video software to make it compatible with the GH5 10-bit format, so Apple isn't any different. so the question is how far from 'standard' is the gh5 if apple just revamped all the video codecs (hvec/h.265) and it didn't include those files? which could well be why the apple system and imovie don't treat them just like the 8-bit files which use h.264. So you seem to be saying that the gh5 10-bit files aren't necessarily h.265. Otherwise everything is different flavors of h.264 recording. ( you need a HDR monitor or TV set to display HDR video files properly ) The h.265 CODEC is used for some Anamorphic modes and the HLG ( Hybrid Log Gamma ) high dynamic range recording. I was led to believe that panasonic used h.265 for the 10-bit mode

Yes, this is a software issue and Apple will have to update whatever app they use to display or open video files so that it becomes compatible with GH5 10-bit files. Some of this is confusing because my mac is to old to support h.265 hardware acceleration but, from what i read, is supposed to be able to view and edit those files. hvec is another of the new codecs the new os is supposed to support. but, if the 10-bit files are h.265, the mac is not recognizing them as it should if it now supports h.265.Īlso, in reading the notes for the fw v2.0 update i saw a mode for producing hvec video although you have to put the camera into cinema mode for that.

I was led to believe that panasonic used h.265 for the 10-bit mode although perhaps that's for one of the burst modes and i'm wrong. the 10-bit files have no thumbnail and won't play by hitting the space bar and won't load right into fcpx or davinci or imovie although you can watch them on vlc or mplayer. this was true before the latest os version. What i meant by 'can't see' is that, for the 8-bit gh5 files, the mac os shows a thumbnail and if you hit the space bar, they will play right in the system. ( I mainly edit with Vegas Pro which was upgraded to version 15 last month, and it now opens GH5 10-bit files with no problems ) Lots of NLEs still can't open GH5 10-bit files, which is a software compatibility issue. So you are unable to "see" the files on your SD cards, or are you unable to OPEN the 10-bit files on your Mac ?
